Chamomile essential oil (Chamaemelum nobile) or Roman chamomile
The aroma of our classic Roman chamomile essential oil is a strongly diffuse, fresh, sweetly warm fruit / herb aroma with notes of green apple peel and pear, and it has a beautifully balanced aroma.
Chamomile oil is made from the flowers of the plant.
You can come across two different varieties of chamomile:
Roman chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile or Anthemis nobilis)
German Chamomile (Matricaria recutita or Chamomilla recutita)
The two plants look slightly different. In addition, the chemical composition of their active ingredients varies slightly. Studies have been performed on both strains. The most studied active ingredient is hamazulin, which is higher in German chamomile.
The use of chamomile is described in medical texts from ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome. It has been used over the centuries by:
- indigestion such as nausea or gas
- wound healing, including ulcers
- anxiety reduction
- relief of skin conditions such as eczema or rash
- to reduce inflammation and pain in conditions such as back pain, neuralgia or arthritis
- promoting sleep
! Do not take internally.
! Take special care if you plan to use essential oils for children. Use only mild essential oils in very small doses. It is better to consult a qualified aromatherapy specialist.
